"The God of Impossibilities! - 2"

GLEANINGS..."A weekly Devotional" by Gbile Akanni

“Then Elisha said, hear ye the Word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said; Behold, if the Lord will make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold thou shall see it with thine eyes, but shall not eat thereof.” 2 Kings 7:1-2 KJV
As you go through this devotion, even if your situation is a terrible condition of debilitating illness, and you are even faced with indisputable evidences of several lives that have perished as a result of what you are going through, yet I tell you with all assurance that it may not take more than just a Word from Jehovah Sabaoth to handle your situation!
“He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” Ps.107:20 KJV

Recall the story of Sarah: Sarah had been barren for many years. She probably married at the age of twenty and for several years she was without a child. By the time she was ninety years old, what did not happen at the prime of her life, (before menopause) took place. The question she must have asked when it happened was,”Where was God when everything was possible and likely?” When the Lord came and said to Abraham;
“…this time next year and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Gen. 18:10 (NIV)

Sarah laughed. That laughter was the laughter of unbelief. The Lord noticed that she laughed. Many have that kind of attitude. When somebody is speaking the word of faith, they outwardly may be nodding while inside they are saying,

“I am familiar with that: that is the positive confession we are told to always make. I have made it for ten years. I have been making positive confessions. It's all right, brother. Thank you very much.” God turned to Sarah and said, “Why did you laugh? Do you mean I cannot do it? By this time next year according to the time of life you will bear a son.” All that God needed to do to turn that situation around was just to speak. May God help you to understand that for God to turn your situation around is a very simple thing.
When it is time for God to arise and fight battle, it is nothing to Him. The first attitude you must have in order to take steps that will lead to a breakthrough is to recognize that with God all things are possible! All situations, predicaments and impossibilities are possible with God. It does not matter what people have known about you over the years. Each time people wanted to describe Sarah, her barrenness became her description. It became her title, and her credentials. But when the Lord came and said, “By this time next year, you will bear a son,” her condition changed, for with God all things are possible. The fact that it was not possible last year does not in any way mean that it will not be possible this year.

The story of the children of Israel in the passage above shows that anything is possible with God. Just before this particular chapter, every place was dry; some had cooked and eaten their children (2 Kings 6:28-29). When this happened, such people must have been biting their tongues saying, “Had I known that God was going to intervene, I would not have slaughtered my only son; if I knew that God was going to come to our rescue, I would have waited for Him a little longer.” Often times the step to backsliding or to giving up, because of pressure, may just be a step before a breakthrough. One may have given up just before God's own divine intervention. Let us learn that with God, all things are possible. There is no place for any impossibility in the hands of God.

The lord upon whom the king leaned said if all the heavens became windows and God decided to be dropping loads of food down, can what God said take place? The man of God said, “It will, but since you chose not to believe, your eyes will see it but your mouth will not taste it.” And that was how it happened, when food came and others were pressing to get the food, the man fell down and mistakenly, people trampled upon him and his stomach burst, his intestine gushed out and he died. What will make some people to die and go down unfulfilled in their lives, is because they simply refused to take God at His Word.

Now again I ask you, what is your own peculiar condition? Arise from it, and with all your heart call upon the name of the Lord. Which of His promises concerning your life have you disbelieved and taken for granted? As you continue in the next chapters, you will discover that God does the most incredulous things, with unlikely persons - even you!
